Tirana 18 may 2016- In the framework of Global Action Week of Education “Fund the Future”, Albanian Coalition for Child Education organized a meeting with children and the deputy minister of education and sports Mrs. Nora Malaj.
The Global Action Week of Education is one of the biggest awareness raising worldwide event with focus advocating for the fulfilment of children’s universal right to equitable and inclusive education.
Since 2005, Albanian Coalition for Child Education has been involved in this activity and organizes every year the global action week of Education. Students form “Pjetër Budi”, “Edith Durham”, “Fan Noli” dhe” Jordan Misja”, “Petro Nini Luarasi”, “Sami Frashëri”dhe “Xhezmi Delli” schools voted for the first time on the education priorities and evidenced the problems they face every day.
The results of the voting process have been presented to the deputy minister Mrs. Malaj in the meeting that she regarded to be a very pleasant meeting and fruitful. Some of the problems that students presented to Mrs. Malaj related mainly to the overcrowding of classrooms, improving the functioning of the psycho-social service in schools, information on the Matura and final exams for students in the 9th grade, the lack of teaching materials in laboratories, improvement of textbooks, the presence of violence in schools and the lack of a mechanism for reporting and preventing it, lack of innovative and qualified teachers , improvement of schools’ infrastructure with particular focus adapting them to disable children needs.
Mrs. Malaj, expressed her commitment to do every effort to solve the problems raised and encouraged students that together with their parents to be more cooperative and interact with the school and teachers. She invited students together to organize a meeting with the mayor of Tirana, where to set their requirements related to duties and responsibilities of the municipality.
