The Coalition announced the start of the events and
activities of the school grant project within the GAWE theme on 26th of April ,
in collaboration with the EU,UNICEF. 200 participants participated in the
school workshop from the states that was funded by GPE.
The states presented a presentation on School Grant Project
funded by GPE via World Bank and announced the start of the GAWE. Launching the
week was followed by publications distribution and discussions on the outputs
of research studies regarding school dropout. The workshop also addressed the
reality of the numbers of children and youth out of school and the reasons led
to dropout.
On the 29th , the coalition organized an Open day for
children and an exhibition on educational themes within the frame of governors
community including different
sketches in addition to competitions,
rewards, puppet theatre, storytelling events. The number of participants
exceeded 1500 children, parents and youth from Palestinian community.
The children presented many paints and sketches and songs
related to educational themes.
On the 2nd of May, as part of the GAW in Sudan, Media Forum
was held on education funding at the Sudanese Women Union headquarter. With the
participation of 109 people including 50
of media people .
The Coalition specified a session for students under the
title “Children Parliament” discussed education financing, from the point of
view of children, with the participation of 50 children from different 50
schools.
On May 17th, a Lecture on the strategic and political basis
for the formulation and enforcement of international millennium development
goals, presented by a member of the Coalition Assembly -Dr. Izz al-Din Hamid
with the participation of 65 persons.
On May 26th, the coalition conducted a national workshop on
financing education for sustainable development. The workshop targeted numbers
of decision makers from the National Council , parliamentarians, politicians
and relevant bodies , and worked on two papers:
a. A paper on legislations and policies, that ensures good
quality education for all.
b. Investment in Education for sustainable development.
The recommendations of the working papers were raised to the
chairman of the National Council, the Deputy of National Council Chairman and
President of Education Committee of the National council.
Pledges made by the government to support the coalition are
as follows:
- Increase
education finance.
- Review the
legislations and policies regarding education.
- Increase
the teachers’ salaries.
- Provide
opportunities to rehabilitation and training the teachers.
