Education for All Somalia (EFASOM) has concluded a 2-day policy forum on the national education priorities which has been held at Siyad City Hotel in Mogadishu during the period Sept 15-16, 2014 including 30 participants from the Ministry of Education of the FederalGovernment of Somalia, the education umbrellas including FPENS, FENPS, SOFEL, SOFEN, SEDA, SAFE, GHEN, SAACID organization, the civil society organization, youth organizations, and women organization.
The forum included special discussions focused on implementation of the curriculum, schools regulatory policy and the special needs education. Mr. Mohamed ElmiTohow, the head of the office managing the public schools under the Somali government said the Forum debated on how to manage the primary and intermediate schools regulatory policy.
Mr. Dauud Mohamed Makaraan, head of the office for non-formal Education of the Ministry of Education pointed out the policy for people with disabilities education has been discussed and prepared during the session of the Forum. On behalf of education umbrellas in Somalia, Mr. Aweis Sheik Mohamed, SOFE Director, had indicated that the importance of unified curriculum, policy for people with disabilities and school management policy framework.
The participants have made valuable contributions in the review process on how to formulate the people with disabilities' education policy presented by the Ministry of education.It is worth mentioning that it is not the first time EFASOM Education Coalition to conduct this type of Forum; EFASOM has earlier implemented training and awareness raising programs promoting development of education in Somalia.
