ALBANIAN COALITION FOR CHILD EDUCATION MEETS THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION TO STRENGTHEN THE COOPERATION BETWEEN CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS AND MOES

Tirana, 16 December 2014- Albanian Coalition for Child Education (ACCE) organized a consultative meeting with the Ministry of Education and Sports to discuss about the problems faced during the monitoring process of the school year 2014-2015 and establish bridges of collaboration and partnership between ACCE and MOES.

All the problems encountered were discussed in the round table between Mrs. Lindita Nikolla, Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Zamira Gjini- Director of Pre-University Education, Mr. Gert Janaqi- Director of Institute for the Development of Education, Mrs. Adriana Berberi- director of MOES Cabinet and representatives of Albanian Coalition for Child Education.

Mrs. Nikolla thanked ACCE for the continuous contribution dedicated to education, a common area of interest that belongs and affects all of us. During the meeting, the Minister informed the participants on the MOES’ new approach on the future of the education stating “... the successes of the reforms undertaken in ensuring quality and inclusive education for all children across the country require a broad consensus among all the interested partiesâ€‌ 

Mutual understanding and cooperation characterized meeting, confirming the intent to organize in full partnership the National Conference on the right to Education of Roma Children. The Ministry of Education agreed on taking into consideration the creation of the National Local Education Group and organizing joint trainings of teachers and directors of Regional Education Directorates on inclusive education and professional approach towards children with disabilities.

Other issues discussed during the meeting regard: the provision of free textbooks for all marginalized children, lack of implementation of the legislation on “Children with Disabilities Right to Educationâ€‌, overcrowding classes, lack of involvement of civil society organizations in discussions regarding the 2015 state budget as well as the absence of a contact person in MOES for Civil Society Organizations that focus their work on advocating for children’s right to education.
