The Somali Coalition for Education for All
Conducted A 2-day training workshop on Policy Influencing in Education
Personnel in Kismayo, Jubbaland State of Somalia for the period of 11-12 March
2015. The purpose of the training was to improve higher professional standards
for educators and support professionals including teachers and parents.
There were 25 participants comprising of Regional
Education Officer (REO), Community Education Committees (CECs), parents, principals
and teachers from primary and secondary schools in Kismayo, and some university
and the civil society members.
During the first day session, the
participants had the chance to discuss the relations between education and
development; fundamentals of educational planning; and the hiring process of
teachers or non-teaching staff. During the second day session, the facilitator
focused on how to form and manage school committees of CECs and PTAs; to
know-how to set structure, administration and management of education centers
and their personnel; and finally to learn how to review syllabus.
The Vice-Minister of Social Affairs of the
Jubbaland State of Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Abdulkadir Ali took the floor to
encourage the participants. The Vice Minister indicated the importance of this
training and the importance of advocacy for quality education. “It is important
to strengthen the relations between parents and teachers in order to reach the goal
of improvement and coordination between both parties” he added.
Presentations covered include strong topics
like fundamentals of educational planning, such as ensuring education
priorities in order to realize the five pillars of education: teacher, pupil,
syllabus, education materials, and a safe school.
Key members from the Ministry of Education
(MOE) of Jubbaland State Administration in Kismayo encouraged this event and
actively participated. This training workshop was organized by a local
education coalition named “Education for All Somalia – EFASOM” to ensure all
Somali people have the right to quality and safe education in all situations.
