Palestine Education Coalition launches the Global Action Week 2015

Palestine Coalition for Education for All launched the Global Action Week activities for this year under the Slogan “Vote for Education”. This came during a national conference on the priorities of education in Palestine post 2015 under the slogan "No voice is louder than the voice of education" that was conducted on the 26th of April.

More than 150 people participated in the conference, representing civil society organizations and the Ministry of Education and The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, in addition to the leaders of the local community.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Planning and Development, Dr. Basri Saleh, in his speech pointed out that this conference is one of the steps that we are presently focusing on in Palestine. He also indicated that this conference is one step towards  preparing Palestine for active participation in the coming World Education Forum that will be held in South Korea in the middle of the next month. Dr.Salih  also added that "Palestine was and will remain one of the countries that will actively participate in the field of education”. He also pointed “that since Dakar Conference in 2000 the Palestinian ministry of Education has set several strategic plans that hopefully will contribute to achieving the goals of the development of education in Palestine

In the same context, the vice chairperson of the Global Campaign for Education – Mr.Refaat Sabbah emphasized the fact that education in Palestine needs a lot of work in terms of the right of people and children with disabilities .

Mr.Sabbah emphasized that the challenges are no longer limited to the challenges of occupation and division between the parties, but  there are other challenges posed by the new stage of the post-2015.He also added that “It does not matter who is driving our work as much as the importance of performing, and this is the message that we all must proceed from."

The conference discussed a range of  important topics, including the prospects for improving the quality of education provided in Palestine in the period between 2015 to 2030, as well as the future of vocational education post 2015, enabling the role of young people from getting the necessary life skills, in addition to the healthy environment in schools and kindergartens, and the right of early education for children from the age of 4 years, and the right of persons with disabilities in education.

At the end of the conference, a set of recommendations has been set ,  based on previous themes. It  entirety aimed at improving the quality of education in Palestine during the next fifteen years.
