Activity Title: Events of the Global Action Week for Education

The time period for implementing the activities: April 26: May 2, 2015

Total number of participants in the activities: 543 participants (males and females)

* The first activity: better education, Egypt's dream campaign

Activity Name: questionnaires (citizen report card)

The date of the activity: 25 to 26 April 2015

Participants in the implementation: Egyptians Without Borders foundation, Aswan - Horus Development Foundation Sohag - Teachers of Aswan Liberal Foundation - Teachers Association Aswan chapter - Women renaissance Association in Nasiriyah - Information Technology Association - the new road foundation in Sohag

The number of participants in the activity: 340 participants of different categories (students - parents - teachers - Specialists - schools'managers - Educational leaders - civil society)

Activity Description:

Forming the  campaign of (better education Egypt' dream) to design (citizen report card) or a questionnaire as social accountability tools for monitoring what was not achieved  from the objectives of the millennium for education, through schools,  various educational departments, the Directorate of Education and the faculty of Education

*The second activity: Round table in Aswan:

Activity Name: Round table in Aswan

Event Date: April 25, 2015

Target group: Education leaders - Members of coalition of education - and a number of experts in the field of education - and a group of journalists

Attendance: 88 participants (males and females)

The output of activity:

And by the end of the round table were suggested recommendations as follows:

1. The need for restructuring and rehabilitation of the competent department training and continuing evaluation process, and activating the role of the professional academy, and to ensure the effective organizational and administrative  independence , and coordination and integration between all parties

2. The need to establish an advanced information data base (electronic file) for the current status of the capabilities and future needs, and the results of evaluating the impact of training and rehabilitation that have been applied

3. Investment in education on the qualitative level system that puts  learning on the top of educational process and building personal and comprehensive components of the character (cognitive and cultural skills and life)

4. Restructuring of the conditions of teachers and educational workers of the system in terms of wages and salaries that provide the minimum for a dignified life for them and for their families as well as raising the professional and cultural competence

5. enhancing the freedom of action of civil society organizations in the follow-up and evaluation of the educational system, monitoring of education rights violations, implementation of civic education programs and to develop proposals for alternatives development

6. community dialogue about the required changes on the legislation, laws and regulations of the educational process changes, and preparation of an alternative draft laws aimed at activating international standards for the right to education management.

7. Review the philosophy, objectives and content of the history subject, and methods of teaching so that it focuses on the history of peoples and not the history of leaders and rulers

8. giving attention to the assessment of the behavior of students and activate the role of social and psychological workers existing in schools

9. activating decentralization that will provide the ability for teachers and educational leaders to do their role properly assigned to each department.

10. preparing a cadre of trainers who would be able to re-train on all schools levels.

11. Establishing mechanisms activate the role of boards of trustees to include clarifying roles and powers,  introducing the rules to the new members, and implementing training programs to them about the strategic goals for education, and the needs of development, quality standards, and the role of boards of trustees in the follow-up, support and evaluation, and link the school to the local community.

12. giving attention to technical education and linking between the curriculum and the needs of the labor market

*Third activity: Drawing contest in Sohag:

Activity title: Drawing contest (better education egypt’s dream) Sohag

Activity Date: April 30, 2015

Target group: children of 11-15 years

Attendance: 40 students males and females

  Description of activity:

In the framework of implementing the activities of the Global Action Week for education in 2015 carried out by members of the coalition on the national level, Horus Foundation for Development and Training in Sohag, a member of the Coordinating Committee of the coalition,  designed a student activity to express  education problems through drawings to explain the problems that hinder the education process; the competition entitled (Better education Egypt's dream)

*Fourth activity: Conclusion of Global Action Week for Education in Cairo in 2015:

Activity title: the conclusion of the activities of Global Action Week for Education 2015

Event Date: May 3, 2015

Participants in implementing the activity: Egyptians Without Borders Foundation - Eve  Future association

Target group: Educational leaders of the Ministry of Education - Education experts in Egypt - members of the Egyptian Coalition for education - the media interested in education

Attendance: 75 participants and participation

Description of activity:

At the end of events of Global Action Week for Education 2015, there was a closing conference organized in the presence of a number of leaders and experts in the field of education and the number of clients from media interested in the development of education and a number of representatives of NGOs

Activity output:

The recommendations of the civil society for the development of the educational process and activating the constructive partnership mechanisms with civil society:

1.      Providing the necessary information for civil society on the achievements of the stated goals of the plan in order to facilitate following-up the implementation of the policies included in the strategic plan and re-drafting of accountability mechanisms by the civil society.

2.       Activating the role of civil society organizations in supporting educational process and providing technical support to civil society organizations so that they can carry out
