EFASOM also concluded its
round table and press conference as part of the activities of Global Action
Week for Education on 30th of April 2015 at Mubaarak Hotel in Mogadishu. The
round table discussed the priorities of education in Somalia after 2015. More
than 50 people participated in the conference, representing school members of
FENPS education umbrella, EFASOM members, and the civil society organization.
The conference discussed a range of important topics, including the prospects for
improving the quality of education provided in Somalia.
In recent years, EFASOM developed activities with holding similar
events focusing on quality education for all. EFASOM was established in 2006 in
Mogadishu by a group of academics and educators. It works in 7 main cities in Somalia
and seeks to establish a coalition that guarantees the rights of Somali people
to access appropriate and free education regardless of the circumstances, be it
emergencies or following disasters. EFASOM aims to improve the quality of
education in Somalia by integrating the civil society in impacting policies to
lobby the Ministry of Education to develop the current curricula, train
teachers, provide comprehensive education for people with disability, build the
capacity of the educational cadre, provide appropriate education for all to
increase enrollment rates and respond to community issues, mainly guaranteeing
the access of boys and girls to education.
