As world leaders converge on the UN this week to agree the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, it is crucial for education campaigners to remind their heads of state that the goals must be paid for – and, to date, and no serious commitment towards financing SDG 4 on Quality Education has been made at any global forum.
In advance of the
summit, GCE is launching a number of tools to support its members to lobby for
increased donor and domestic funding for education. This set of tools will be
followed by a briefing on key activities and social media for the UN
Sustainable Development Summit. These tools include the following:
Education
Aid Watch 2015
his report, compiled by
GCE and its members in donor countries, documents a failure to provide the
pledged donor support for the Education For All and Millennium Development
Goals. Education Aid Watch 2015 shows that while a few donors have stepped up
to provide significant and good quality aid, others have neglected their
pledge, leading to an overall picture of wholly inadequate support for the
goals that the whole world agreed 15 years ago.

Education
financing briefing for members
GCE has prepared a
briefing for members outlining the serious issues around education financing
that must be addressed in order to achieve SDG 4 and the commitments made in
the Education 2030 Framework for Action, and which also details GCE’s position
on developments such as the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) and the new International
Commission on Financing Global Education.
